Scaling the Circular Economy

Two days immersed in the Future Leaders' Accelerator, focusing on topics of organisational leadership. For the first time, I introduced the themes of the circular economy and circular design alongside design thinking and service design. We explored why scaling the circular economy is challenging, and the following obstacles emerged:

  • Systemic change is required: The circular economy involves numerous actors and interests. Each actor must be approached individually, and their motivations understood.

  • Lack of supportive societal narratives: Current societal narratives do not favor the adoption of circular economy principles.

  • Rigid systems and regulations: Existing systems and regulations are inflexible and fail to accommodate circular business models.

  • Risk aversion in green transition: Green transition is inherently innovative and carries risks, but many companies lack the appetite or capacity to take them on.

Thrilled to see this as the fifth class of future leaders in action.

Many thanks to Miltton New Nordics for making it happen!
